A few minutes drive after Villaverde you
will find La Oliva a pretty village surrounded by farmland, it is the
administrative seat of the north of the island.
There is an Art Gallery here set in pretty gardens, an agricultural museum
called La Cilla and a craft exhibition called The Monastery.
An impressive 18th century house called La Casa de Los Coroneles (The House
of the Colonels) sits at the heart of the village; it was previously the
home of the rulers of Fuerteventura.
The house has 2 floors, three turreted towers, a central patio, spacious
galleries and 365 door and window openings! (It is presently undergoing
restoration works.)
